"Nigel Kneale is Britain's first significant television dramatist. His BBC series The Quatermass Experiment astonished viewers in 1953. A year later, and questions were asked in Parliament about his adaptation of 1984. Still writing for TV in the 90s, Kneale is a genuine small-screen visionary whose often fantastical work also inspired the whole Hammer horror phenomenon."
